The best plan for screaming is DRA ( differencial reinforcment for Alternate
behavior) ....this works much faster than straight out extinction ...such as
ignore screaming and do nothing else...and the humans loose it almost 98% of
the time ...because they give in at least once ( or twice or let's face it many
times!!!) and thus creat what is called ( IR ) intermittant
reinforcment....think of gambling ....aka slot machines! By ignoring ALL screaming and only coming
ONLY to the altenate sound...the screaming will stop by default and the bird
will use the alternate sound because THAT is what WORKS now!!( it can be
whistling,singing talking,whatever you can live with, etc.)
"Behavior has Function " If the screaming does not work it no longer serves
a function and will extinguish ..."poof"!
But EVERYONE in the household must be in on the "plan of action"...or if just
once someone blows it and gives in ...then you have a set back ....remember
think of the slot-machines?....the bird will become a gambler and it will take
even longer to make the plan work ( and it will not stop at all and actually
get worse if someone in the house keeps giving in once in a while...again this is called aka:

almost all of the time never escalates to the horrible (everything they've got
left to throw at you! ) screaming called the "extinction burst" . The screaming is for
attention ...the alternate sound serves the very same purpose ( so there is no void left ) and ...screaming does NOT any longer work
to get attention ...BUT the alternate sound DOES get attention and works ...
Well as we say ...BEHAVIOR HAS FUNCTION ..they being parrots are super smart
....guess which ones they will reolize works and which one they will reolize
is a waste of time ....and thus fade out...?
This cannot fail...if screaming continues then the bird is getting
reinfocement for the screaming ...someone is giving in and keeping the screaming
worthwhile and thus functional .....find them fast ...and give them special sound
ear muffs( inexpensive)for work around machinery etc.( sporting goods stores
etc) .....and all will be well again ! And if they still sabatoge your efforts
..threaten them with no cooking or better yet bodily harm...LOL!!!
