The new photos of the Umbrella cockatoo are of my 2 year old, center of the universe, Gabriel. He's got the socializing thing down like a used car salesman. His insistance of being my shadow, sidekick, and cuddlemate comes to a screechn' halt upon the entrance of guests....any guests. He pursues them with the gusto of a Rugby player immediately throwing his face down and offering his inverted stretched crest for them to massage thier fingertips with. However, they rarely heed my warnings of continuing their finger therapy with the same gusto they initiated it with, leading to a little 'remember me' nip. This obviously compromises the lovely encounter and their continued disposition and trust. A very dissapointing course of events. ANY IDEAS???? They get shaken up with the shoe attack thing. I know it's just play, but that doesn't sell well.

It kinda sounds like he's learned that people react in interesting and exciting ways when bitten.

How long can they scratch his head before he bites? If the answer is 10 seconds, ask (no, DEMAND) that people stop petting him after 5 seconds. If people don't comply, say very flatly: "he WILL bite you, and you WILL bleed." If they still don't comply, take their hand and gently move it away from the bird.

When people do get bit, he should be ignored for a few minutes. Everybody gets up and leaves the room.

He'll probably catch on. If not, read this:
