I just thought I would pop in to show that I have let Skye's wing grow out and she can now fly. I have not been here for quite some time, but maybe some of you might remember me from the past. I have owned many parrots in a 30 something year period and all were clipped. I was too scared to not have Skye clipped so I did clip her. But now she can and does fly in the house. Mainly just to people, but she is flying just the same. I am also a member of "birdclick" where I have learned how to train some pretty neat tricks with her. I take her almost everywhere with us, even to volleyball comps and to dog obedience trials. She is always harnessed now she can fly, or in her travel cage. But I wanted to teach her to fly to me on command just in case she did get out, I hope I would have a better chance of getting her back if I found her in a tree or something.
She is now 18 months old and talks up a storm. I can remember when I first joined here, there was a bit of talk about how well ekkies talk. Well she was talking within 3 weeks of me owning her and she just astounds me with what she says all the time and some of it is in context.
A couple of funny stories are: One day my 15 year old daughter and myself where playing hide and seek with my 3 year old son. I hid him behind skye's cage. Obviously we knew where he was (we could see him anyway) LOL. But Rhianna was playing along with the game, yelling out "where are you" and Caillean would yell back "I here". LOL Anyway, Skye turned around and looked down at Caillean and said "hello, hello, I here" then laughed at him. We just looked at each other and laughed.
Another time I put her into the lounge room to watch tv, but she ended up facing the fishtank (I have had for years) and she said "wow", it was funny, it sounded like she only just realised there was a fishtank in the house.
Another time I was bashing some frozen passionfruit in the sink (for Skye), she was on the back verandah in her cage and could hear a lot of noise and bashing going on. I heard her say "ouch". LOL she must have thought there was so much noise going on someone must be hurt.
She knows "hello" is a greeting and uses it as such when people come over, or if we are out and people walk near or around us.
another day while in the shops in Brisbane (7 hour drive south of where I live) I was waiting outside a lingerie shop waiting for a friend to "look" at the under clothes etc. Skye started to wolf whistle at people walking past. Well you can imagine the looks I was getting. I think people thought it was me.
She says many many things like - whats your name, what ya doing, good girl, youre a good girl and you ARE a good girl (she loves those ones). She calls the kids - Rhianna came into me a couple of times wanting to know what i wanted, I told her I did not want her, she asked why did you call me then. I said I didn't it must have been skye. Rhianna just rolled her eyes at me. she also calls the dogs - Summa (she says UUUmmma) and Mysta (she says IIIsssa). The list goes on.
So just thought I would brag a bit and let some of you know how Skye and myself are doiong and that I am really proud of myself for finally getting the courage to allow Skye to grow out her wing.
