If you have any suggestions that might make FeatherForum more useful, I would love to hear them. What would you like to see in a parrot web site?

Nate,
It would be good to have a "log out" button or clickable link easily accessible without having to go in under "My account" (which isn't intuitive).

Good idea. I think I can arrange that...

I know posting pictures can eat up a lot of server space and can get expensive but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand yada yada yada's. Do you have any plans or thoughts on this?

Yes I have plans for this... I'm working on it now, as a matter of fact. :-) I tried to get it working a couple days ago but hit a roadblock. I think I'll have it soon though.

Everybody has a personal image gallery now. I'm working on a way to post images so they appear in both the main gallery and the personal gallery, but right now you have to choose one or the other.

This maybe the best forum setup I've seen. I like the articles idea. If the content quality stays high it should bring in new members and readers. The idea of having the birds listed by type will save some specialty readers a lot of time and the members personal space is really is really cool.
I think a list of members, when you get a few, would be helpful. Also, being able to search by user ID and bring up all the archived posts, after they fall off the 'recent' list, would nice.

I'm glad you like it... Part of the reason I set this up was that I was unsatisfied with so many existing message boards. Pages load slowly, you have to enter your name every time you post, you can't post images easily, etc, etc. I'm pretty happy with the way this board is coming together, at least on the technical side of things. Now we just need to get the word out and get more people to see how well this board works. :-)
Thanks for posting those great pictures, by the way.
On to your suggestions... I'm pretty sure a user list would be easy to set up, and I will look into that. I just noticed that the 'search' link is broken so that will be my first priority... Searching by user id is also a good idea.
You can currently see what postings a user has made, if you click on the user's name there's 'recent posts' link on their page. But, the web site software treats 'postings' and 'comments' separately and I would rather see it show everything so I'm going to work on that.
Thanks,

When you mail a new member that god awful password, the email says we can change it at 'this link'. But the screen I got to just asked me to apply for another god awful password. I had to go to personal profile to pick my own. Minor point on an otherwise glorious piece of work.
Oh, and when I replied to the administrator's email with this nitpicking complaint, the email bounced back. You don't really exist, do you!?

But I guess that email account doesn't exist. Thanks for bringing that up, I'll fix that ASAP, and the password link too.

The latest thing is great. If you ever get like RCU the latest might include something like 2,350 new posts in the past 5 hours.
How about these 2:
Subscribe to a link. IE when one posts a new topic or a new comment how about a box to click: notify me via email if someone posts a reply or comment
Link IE: I just posted a macaw picture (where?)
Green Macaw (title) could be a link to click and go there

OK, here's your link feature JT... if you put a page title in [square brackets] it becomes a link to that page.
For example: link to a picture of
Darwin
.
The drawback is, anything you put in
square brackets
becomes a link. We'll see how this works out.

A members list would be really good. I would personally find it helpful to know where in the world people were, not their exact addresses of course, but the country would be good. :)

On the latest posting page where it say type of posting on the left hand side i.e. Journal, Image, Forum.... under Forum it would be really helpful to have listed what category the forum came under e.g. General, Training, Lost and Found etc.

I've only been a member for about30 minutes, so keep that in mind) but I'm having trouble figuring out "where" to post. the option to post appears even when reading old topics. If I post at an old topic, will it appear with current topics? or should I only post to newer topics. I need some info, but I think maybe I'll end up with like 3 or 4 of the exact same comment? Help please before anyone gets mad at me!!
thanks,
sherry

Hi Sherry,
In case you haven't already seen how it works: you can post to any old topic, and it magically pops up in the "latest" list, the place to click on for current conversations... cool, huh?

Basically each discussion gets its own web page... You can always add something to a discussion with the 'post new comment' form at the bottom of the page.
To start a new discussion or ask a question, the usual thing to do is post something new in one of the forums.
If it's about something that you want to have organized with a bunch of other posts about what happends with your birds, you might want to post a journal entry instead of a forum topic. That's up to you, there's no wrong answer, nobody is going to be mad. :-)
And like Lisa said, whatever you post will show up on the 'latest' page. That's a good place to check for new stuff, no matter where it gets posted.

It seems from what I‘ve read, there is a desire /need for a discussion group related to the new parrot BAS group. S seems to be against this and for once I agree (as hard as it is to say).
So…, if you put a BAS Forum topic header over here it looks like it would be a win win for FF and BAS. I bet S would love to get rid of the discussion stuff but still keep an eye on it. Since your both close friends and your pretty smart about BAS I think she would love to see it over here instead of over there if it had to be some ware. If she told every one off topic /off thread (which like about half the postings) to come over hear, FF would double the size of its subscribers with a hand shake and a few key strokes. On the surface it sounds like a no brainer but considering it carefully.

Mike, I can't believe it took me this long to see that last comment of yours. I did talk with the BAS powers-that-be when they were having trouble with their old mailing list service, and though I tried to get them to move here, a couple of key people were very attached to the mailing list format. Susan seemed keen on the idea of directing off-topic conversations over here, though.
I'm working on (well, "thinking about") ways to integrate the web site with email. It should be easy to make the web server send new postings via email (the subscription feature does part of the work already), but the tricky thing will be enabling people to post new comments by email. I think that can be done, I just need to get my development server running again so I can really get to work on this idea.
I did get the user list working properly though, that's something. And I only broke the web site a couple times while I was tinkering with it... :-)
