Chico my GCC enjoying the sun in his new outdoor cage/mini aviary. Taken in September - it's too cold to bring him out now.

Green Cheeks are sweet birds. Quieter of the conure families.

Are those fully grown in wings in the picture?

GCC's usually have a nippy reputation - but Chico is one of the sweet ones, a very nice, quiet little guy. Yes, he's full flighted. The aviary's only about 5 feet long though and he doesn't want to try to fly in it, though. I guess when you're used to flying through the house, a 5' aviary isn't much space. But he enjoys going out for an hour or two in nice weather as long as I stay nearby.

Did you build the aviary? If so, was is hard? I'd love to build one that could be taken apart so it didn't have to weather the winter.

Well it wasn't too hard, but it wouldn't be secure for larger parrots. Basically just a wooden framework with wire panels stapled on. The wire panels are simply from some used flight cages I got very cheaply from a breeder - took them apart, cleaned them well, and used them. They are galvanized wire, not ideal, but my birds don't chew on it and stainless steel wasn't really an option.
It comes apart since the wood framework is bolted together. For winter I just dragged it out of the way and threw a tarp over it though.
