What foods are safe to feed to budgies? They are currently on a seed, pellet, and spinach, arugala, and other greens diet. I would like to expand this diet, but am unsure about what is safe to feed to my birds.
Are there any things that they particularily like? Anything that I shouldn't give?
p.s. My birds love anything that is green.

Most things that are good for people are also good for birds. Mine love corn, lettuce, peas, green beens, brown rice, broccoli, pasta, sweet potatoes, and this veggie mix I got on mytoos.com in the food part and you can freeze it. They love that cat grass that you can buy at a pet store. They also enjoy an occasional scrambled egg and sometimes even meat(well cooked)

Things with lots of sugar, salt, or fat are not good on a regular basis (sometimes I give them a tortilla chip or a piece of a cookie, some cake ect.)

Chocolate is bad, especially dark

Avacado is said to be bad also, especially near the center

caffeen should be avoided for the most part

milk should be given only in tiny amounts because birds cant really digest it

human saliva has bacteria that can hurt birds, so you shouldnt let your bird eat out of your mouth

Just use common sense It sounds like your birds are already receiving a great diet

This is a good site on avian nutrition:
http://www.parrotsociety.org.au/articles/art_021.htm

Safe foods:
http://www.itsagreysworld.com/diet/food.htm

Avocado is highly toxic so never give any.

No sugar, salt, cafiene, chocolate, fat.

Only button mushrooms should be given & sparingly.

Onion & garlic are ok but VERY sparingly but is recomended none at all to be safer. example: if you accidentally give the bird anything that's ok if given only sparingly like onion, you won't do your bird any harm.

Ice burg lettuce is loved by all birds but does nothing but cause diareoah if given too much because it's all water. Red lettuces & asian lettuces are better for nutrition.

100% organic or natural, no preservatives or addatives etc. Wash everything thoroughly & always read the ingredients on packs before giving them to your bird, including pellets.

Greens are a great form of nutrition for budgies as well as sprouting budgie seed you may have & loved by all birds too.
