My budgie has had diarrhea since I got her in December. She eats and plays well, but is listless most of the time. I have tried numerous suggestions to no avail so far. The nearest vet is about 80 miles away, not too convenient, and traumatizing for the bird. I stopped the fruit (orange & strawberry is all they will eat so far) and it seemed to ease up for a while. I got activated charcoal, that seemed to help a bit, then didn't. I put her on an antibiotic for 5 days in her water. She is back with loose stools again. I have been giving her orange again because the male likes it as well and I hate to not let them have any fruit. She is a real sweetheart and I hate to see her sleeping most of the time. Does anyone have any more ideas? His droppings are normal, so I suspect it is not a contagious type of thing.

Well this may sound gross - but is it real diarrhea or is it just watery droppings? If there is a distinct solid and liquid part to the dropping, then it is just watery droppings. Diarrhea is often a sign of illness, but watery droppings CAN be normal.
Droppings can be more watery if a bird eats more fruit or other juicy foods, especially acidic things like oranges. It could also be a sign of a kidney problem.

i know that my bird loves oranges and orange juice every once and a while. But the citrus in it can give them watery droppings. that might be whats happening.

With my birds, it definitely correlates with how much water or fruit they have had recently. You might try taking the fruit out of their diet for a few days and see if that helps.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I really think it is more than just watery. Most of the time there is no formation as in normal droppings. I stopped all the fruit and it did not go away. I know that the fruit makes it worse. Should they not get fruit at all then? They really enjoy it.
She is just so much more lethargic than the male, she sleeps most of the time. But, when she is awake she eats well and is more active than he is. So then it doesn't appear as though she is ill. Rather confusing...
