Between a 'free range' bunny, three cats, a parrot, a husband, a teenager, and, I'll admit, my own clumbsyness, my carpets are filthy!!!

I've been daydreaming of renting a carpet cleaner to steam clean them. However, I'm wondering if it would be bad for the bird? Does anyone know. And if it would be, could I replace the chemicals with something herbal?

How do others keep thier carpets clean?

Thank you

Seventh Generation carries a whole line of safe, earth-friendly cleaners for just about everything. Go to www.seventhgeneration.com Their website has all their products (and local distributors, if any). I have a little Bissel carpet 'steam' cleaner that I got at WalMart for under $100. It looks like a small vac. With four dogs, four cats, and 10 birds, it's used all the time, since it's so lightweight and convenient. And it's certainly easier to use than the huge clunkers you rent. I vacuum first then steam-clean. Hope this helps.
