I'm thinking of getting two budgies, but my cat is a supreme huntress. She's brought down rabbits almost as big as she is (she weighs 9 lbs). I also have a medium-sized golden retriever/black lab mix that will be ten in Sptember. She is still rather hyper, and recently caught some type of rodent. Is it safe to have budgies in my house?

I don't know if getting budgies would be a good idea, unless perhaps you could keep them in a room seperate from the cat at all times. Birds can get along with cats, but usually it only works out with tame birds and docile cats. Two untame budgies might be afraid of the cat if she approached and would flutter around, attracting her attention.
A very determined cat could probably figure a way to knock down or reach a paw into even a pretty strong cage, and bacteria in a cat's saliva can cause a fatal infection in a bird if it gets in an open wound.

Be very careful if you're getting budgies. I'm not quite sure how the cat will work out, but the dog will definately be a problem. My dog killed my budgie on Tuesday. We'd had the bird for five years, and the dog for a few months. I'm really, really upset about it. If you are going to have the budgies, you really need to find a place where the cat and dog cannot get to them (preferably a separate room).
