I hope you read my tale of buying Ronin. This article is a overview for those considering an eclectus as a pet. Number one, get them close to weening. Keep in mind that an eclectus is very cautious especially when their young so they may seem overly guarded at first. This is normal. They actually open up as they get older. Dont expect them to be cudley as a cockatoo or conure. An eclectus as a rule is not cuddly. In the wild they dont have a lot of close contact and touching as other birds, so don't expect it. They do however bond well and like your attention just not your petting. The exception is when they are nervous or sleepy. If your eclectus likes to cuddle or be handled consider yourself fortunate. Eclectus' are hardy eaters and enjoy fresh fruits and veggies, but be sure to wash them. They need large macaw size cages. Also a suspended toy they can swing on. They can be very clownish. You may want to put some padding down covered with news paper as clipped eclectuses can fall off their perches and toys. I'm not gonna go into the little trials we have had, but if you have a specific issue I'll convey what I did. I consulted several experts on certain issues with good results. I had a perch made that sits beside my chair. He's on it as I write doing his sound effects. Young eclectus try talking long before they actually make since. He says hello Hewwo.
