Help! My two parakeets have all sorts of toys, plenty of shredding toys and wood to gnaw on. Lately the female has started unraveling the thread in my curtains, which are now all falling apart. Short of keeping them in their cage or no longer having curtains, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you considered a play gym. Maybe one of those coral type boxes that pet stores use. They are about 4 x 4 and have plexiglass sides and a rail. If you put a play gym set up in one of these. Just a suggestion. I have slightly bigger birds and they are kind to my house, although I had to move my eclectus cage away from the blinds. He likes to walk around on top of his cage and was tearing up my blinds.

My husband made a huge tree for them that we have lots of toys on. They also have another area on a plant stand with toys and food that they hang out on. The curtain rods, and hence the curtains, are a fairly new venture for them. I just placed face cloths and pillow cases over the edges of my curtains for now, but this room sure isn't as attractive that way, LOL.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Perhaps you could place something near the curtains to frighten them off. Something like a small toy pinwheel or other object that might could blow around and look scary when they fly too close to it.
