I recently purchased my GCC Aderyn, and when I did she was perfectly healthy. At first she was fed on a diet of fresh fruit, seeds, and pellets.

I ran out of seed two days ago, and couldn't make it out to the store to buy more. So, I simply put pellets and fruit in her dish.

This seemed fine at first - she didn't eat any less than normal, and seemed relatively happy with her new diet.

Today, however, she pooped on my shoulder while I was holding her, and I noticed that her stools looked a bit... red and bloody.

I'm not sure if this is just an effect of the dyes in the pellets (because they are the fruit flavored kind, with red, green, and yellow pellets), or if something is wrong with her besides that.

I'm going out to buy some more seeds to add to her diet.

Do you think the bloody looking poops could have been due to the dyes in her food, or because there's something wrong with her?

If she's still acting normal and the poops look normal excepot for color, then it PROBABLY is just from eating red pellets or red fruit. Try taking away red/orange pellets and any bright colored fruit like blueberries or raspberries for an hour or two and see if her poops go back to normal.

I added seed to her mix again, and her poops turned normal again. It was just the dye in her pellets. That's a relief!
