I have a sun conure and two persian cats. The cats don't bother it because they are not allowed/able to. I keep it in a safe place where the cats cannot bother/access it, and only take it out when it's being supervised. NO EXCEPTIONS.

No bird of a conure's size and weight cannot defend itself against an adult cat or dog--that advice makes no sense--and what's more, the saliva in a cat and/or dog's mouth is toxic to a conure and can kill it, even if the bite or scratch doesn't. Even cats and dogs that get along with conures can be dangerous to them because of this important and deadly fact. I've read this time and time again in many parrot and conure books and on line--and from my avain board certified vet.

Get the sun! They are loud but wonderful birds! But keep it away from your cat (and more importantly, keep your cat away from it!) They can co-exist, but only when safely monitored.

Good Luck!

I have 2 birds & a cat.

My cat doesn't care much about the birds. They do learn the difference between family & everything else when it comes to birds, however no matter how good a cat may be around your birds you can never fully trust them & should never leave them alone.

If your cat is in the house & bird is out of the cage, they need to be supervised.

No matter how fiesty a bird is, they should never be put into a position where they have to defend themselves!! That's just cruel & your bird WILL be killed by the cat.

I think a more feisty bird is certainly likely to intimidate a cat and make it much less likely to attack. Most cats are cautious and prefer to attack something that acts scared of them. I know people who have birds who will chase and attack their dogs and cats.
Still, a cat will scratch in self defense.
With a cat scratch, there's the possibility of a potentially fatal bacterial infection (but easy to treat if you go to the vet within a day).

I have a cat and my two small birds... for the most part everyone gets along quite well. I would consider the cat 100% trustworthy not to attack my conure, maybe only 90% trustworthy when it comes to my budgie. But again, even a trustworthy cat will swat at a bird if it feels threatened and most handraised birds are fearless of cats. I keep birds and cat in seperate rooms when no one is home.

I have a large 7 year old cat (Daisy), 3 year old pomeranian (Cujo) and a greencheek (Sweetpea). The bird and dog are best buds. As far as the cat goes, well, Daisy could care less about anything that doesn't involve her. This is true with most cats unless maybe an indoor/outdoor cat ... I'm not too sure about them but once a cat recognizes family, everything is usually ok with new pets.
