Well, today makes one month since Tango joined our household and we are all so very lucky to have her. She is now 9 months old and she has quickly become a wonderful member of the family. I have shared my life with a wide variety of pets over the years and I have to say I have never had one so eager to take part in every aspect of the daily affairs of the house. Her tail feathers are slowly being replaced with pretty new ones and her overall feather quality is much improved...her frequent baths help.

She is always interested in what we are doing. We usually play a few rounds of Mario Golf, Tennis or Cart during the day and if she is in another room she raises a fuss until she can join us...she really seems to like the sounds and colors and gets frustrated right along side us if we are losing. She has begun snuggling into little blanket 'caves' or the inside of our jackets or sweaters, where she happily clucks back and forth with us.

She has begun vocalizing a lot and actually said 'Hello' today so that there was no mistaking it for being a random sound. She usually chatters and experiments when we are out of the room, and we talk back to her, encouraging certain sounds. She is getting the hang of 'potty training', as much as she is able. It is a bit difficult for her as she is still clipped, but if her cage or playgym is nearby, she will walk towards it to let us know she has to go...she isn't 100%, but it looks promising. Otherwise, we keep track of time and place her on her cage or gym and ask her to go. She usually complies immediately, especially if it means more Mario :).

She is eating a wider variety of food now...though her old standbys are still favorites. She loves red bell peppers, scrambled eggs (still feels weird giving a bird eggs, especially as I don't eat them, but she loves them), carrots, leafy greens, mashed potatoes (she burrows her head in and devours them), pasta, and dried papaya. It helps that we are vegetarians and that we eat a wide variety of veggies and fruits each day.

I am still job searching and as soon as I get some more extra money coming in, she will get her new cage, more toys and I am searching for a suitable large branch to make a bird tree for her (hard to find in suburbia...at least of a safe wood and proper size, that hasn't been sprayed to death with some chemical or other). I am also planning a shopping trip to get supplies to make her some of the toys that are so expensive to buy.

So, that is my little update. I am very happy to have such a great venue to air concerns, ask questions and learn from those more experienced with birds.....thanks, Nate :)
