Hello, It's been a while since I've posted but I am extremely curious what other's are feeding their parrots. Particularly if people go organic with thier animals and feel that makes a difference.

Gonzo my African Grey has been getting a mix of Beak Appitite, Harris organic mash, Veggies, carrot juice and a small portion of what we eat and way too many peanuts and 'yogies' as treats (yogies are an empty yougurt treat that made the vet shudder when she saw it) . As we eat fairly well on grains and veggies this seemed no issue. Saddly, Gonzo is very sick with a bacterial infection. The vet feels his diet is part of it.

The good news is that after three days of worry, he just ate a huge portion of his Harris' Mash. I cried with joy to watch him eat. IT's a great sign. He also pooed a healthy movement on my fingers and I was thrilled for the first time! I'm sure anyone whose parrot has gotten sick can appricate that strange joy. Pray for us all.

My boys & girl get all fresh fruit & veg, cooked foods, nuts grains, sprouts, seeds & anything else that is good for them. I don't feed pellets mainly because they're almost impossible to get here & our fruit & veg range is huge all year round so they're never limited on what they can eat.

Tango came to me with a bit of a seed fetish...she also likes fresh veggies and fruit but only a limited variety. I am trying to change her over a bit. She gets a cooked bird mash and pellets (Roudybush) in the morning (as she is more hungry then I am trying to win her over). If we have scrambled eggs, she also gets a bit of that a few hours later. Late morning she gets her hookbill mix (seed variety, freeze dried veggies, dried fruit, cheerios, the occasional nut). In the afternoon she gets leafy greens, veggies, a bit of fruit (the veggies are fresh or sometimes thawed frozen). For dinner, she usually mooches some of our food. She is not accepting the grains and pellets yet, but I can be stubborn too. :)

60% fresh fruits and veggies. The favorites are sweet potatoes, corn, beets, apples, peaches, melon and carrots.
20% seed. I feed SunSeed, its wonderful andalways smells very fresh!
15% cooked meals such a birdie bread, and other recipes that I make for the birds.
5% unshelled nuts like brazil nuts, almonds, wallnuts, etc...

I tried the pelleted diet, but didn't like it very much. Harrison's pellets are really good, and my birds liked them, but they also like their fruits and veggies that are very limited on pellets

Treasure my 2 yr old senegal gets about 50% Zupreem Pellets and the rest is a mix of fresh vegi's, and Beak Appitite mix. She eats very few fresh fruits she doesn't seem to have much of a taste for them.

Evie my 2 year old Orange Wing Amazon eats mostly fresh fruit and vegetables, with the occasional bit of whole grain bread, pasta, and sunflower seeds. My lovebird Haku is crazy about anything green. I think their diet is pretty healthy, what with the occasional cookie once in awhile.

Roudybush is their staple diet. They get fruit and nuts and other treats occasionally. Even the cockatiel that was raised on seed switched to Roudybush easily.
