I'm going to build an outside avery for two sun concures. I was wondering if this new pressure treated lumber is harmful to them. I wanted to build it out of the new pressure treated lumber for ease and surround it with 1/4 hardware cloth, etc... Any input or sugesstions would be greatly appreciated...Bernie

Unfortunately, I don't think either hardware cloth or pressure treated lumber is safe for a bird to chew on. I know hardware cloth has zinc and sometimes lead in it.
Inncidently, I am building a screen room for my birds - and I am using pressure treated wood. But I am designing it to make it very unlikely they would chew on the wood, by using aluminum mosquito screening instead of mesh (difficult for them to climb on) and lots of good branches and toys to chew on to distract them. They can only go in there supervised, as because it will be screen mesh, a bird could always get a claw caught in it if one did decide to try to climb.

Just so you both know the chemical in wood that creates "pressure treating" is arsenic. So it is VERY bad to use.
