I've had my GCC for about 8 months now, and for the past 3 or 4 months she has been so aggressive that she is utterly unapprochable.
When we first had her, she was extremely friendly. She never bit, rarely screamed, and was quite trusting of me and my family.
We also had Salty when we first got her. Salty was a little budgie, and they were really good friends.
He died in April, and for about a month it was just me and Aderyn. Things were fine for a while, and then we got Carl, another budgie.
They are not in the same cage (for obvoius reasons), but they are in the same room. It is not possible for me to separate them, as my room is the only bird-safe room in the house, unless I send Carl off to someone elses house temporarily.
The behavioral issues started slightly before we got Carl, though I didn't really realize it at the time - she was nipping slightly, becomming very territorial, and slightly agressive.
It intensified even further as the months went on. By the end of June, she was biting so freuqnetly and so hard that I couldn't handle her at all without having my hand mauled.
She's incredibly aggressive now - if I come near her to shut the cage door, she lunges viciously at my hand; when I'm putting food in her cage, she tries to bite my fingers. I can't pick her up unless I use a wooden dowl.
I know that GCCs have a tendancy to get a bit nippy and hormonal during the summer, but her behavior is getting out of hand. I'm at a loss for what to do; does anyone have any suggestions?
