i had bought 2 budgies a few months ago and one died suddenly for some unknown reason....so my other one has been living on his own since. should i get him another buddy?

It kind of depends on how tame he is and how much attention you could give him. It is cruel to keep a single budgie by itself if it is afraid of people or you don't have the time to give it attention - they are extremely social birds. If he's tame or you are working on taming him and you can let him out for a few hours a day and give him toys to keep him occupied when he must be alone, then he will be ok by himself.
Otherwise it would be best to get him a companion.
