Hi i am a owner of a beautiful 1 year old sun conure. I have had her since she was 2 months old i have a little problem with her though. I am the only one in the house she lets touch her hold her feed her ect...Another question i have about her is i have been wanting for the longest time to teach her how to fly freely, and so if she ever flys anywhere she can always come back to me. If anyone knows any techniques or anything pleas let me know.:)i don't lock her in her cage i leave it open for her to go in and out when she wants and i put her in at night. I give her at least 6 hours of attention every day shes likes to take naps with me and she loves to take baths in the sink. She is not he only bird i have ever had iv had another sun conure love birds and a cockatiel but she is by far my faviort bird i have ever had.

Free flying is always risky. Does your Sun fly well now? If she's clipped or not a strong flier you want to wait until she can fly well and will fly to you when you call her indoors before thinking about training for outdoor freeflight.
With outdoor flight, you have the problems of cars/loud noises which could spook your bird (though moat birds learn to not be afriad of these with time), and of predators like hawks which may chase your bird. Most people who freefly fly larger birds like macaws, or fly several smaller birds together in a flock so they help each other look out for and avoid predators.

Try this group for some adivce on freeflight:

They do mostly discourage flying birds that were not fledged as babies, as unfledged birds do not fly quite as well and can be at most risk.

I thought I should clarify - the freeflight list mostly discourages flying unfledged birds OUTDOORS. They always encourage indoor flying when possible!

Hi- I am anew owner of sun conure. Rikky is 1 1/2 yrs old. I am the second owner kind of. He was bought by another family from a pet store and returned because of fiances. I fell in love with him before he left the store the first time and didnt realized it was the same bird from before when he was returned. we again hit it off. It was a month before i decided to buy., I also have a cockateil who is much quieter, sometimes. Have only had Rikky for 4 days now. he bites more here than at the pet store. At the pet store he liked me better than the workers-he bite them all the time. the bites hurt and scare me.what to do????????
