Hello everyone! I just got Angel yesterday. She's 3 years old and she's sweet and beautiful. When I picked her up at her previous owner's house, the owner gave me a bag of cockatiel seed mix that she said that Angel eats. I read a lot about sun conures and what I've found is that it is best to have them on a diet that doesn't consist mostly of seeds. I purchased just a small 14 oz bag of zupreem conure diet food a couple of days ago knowing this and since she's been at my house I have mixed a little with the cockatiel seed. She doesn't seem to like it of course, she's not used to it. She just keeps pushing that type of food out help her to eat the zupreem diet? What do I need to do to help her get the proper nutrition?

There are different things you can try. You can moisten pellets in juice or mix with chopped fruits and vegatables if she likes those and offer in a seperate dish. Or you can pretend to eat a pellet and then offer one from your hand. That can make the pellets more appealing.
Mixing pellets with her seeds is also good. You can try crushing up a few pellets and mixing them with seeds so she has to swallow a little pellet dust when eating the seeds.
Once she starts to get the idea pellets are edible you can try offering seeds in limited portions or only for a short time twice a day, with pellets at other times. Just do not let her go hungry for too long if she won't try the pellets.

Hi there, i breed and freefly sunconures and i believe they should have a varied diet of plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as seeds and some pellets. Like all things it may take them a while to start eating new foods but i would definetly recommend trying! After all variety is the spice of life!
