Hi, i recently acquired two cockatiels, less than two weeks ago. their names are punky and rocky. Punky, who i think is a girl is more sociable and "loves" it when i scratch the back of her ears. rocky though is more reserved but still perches on my finger comfortably.
My question is, i am not sure whether the two like my company. what do cockatiels do when their owners have already earned their trust? they were not hand raised and were a bit wild when i got them. i used the techninques i read from the internet, they said that i could try "forcing" them out of the cage. I used a towel at first, then i used gloves. the gloves were just used so that i could let them perch on my finger without having any fear of them biting me. i never had to grip on their whole body. both of them now pearch on my bare finger when i want to take them out of the cage. they dont ever get out of their cage on their own.
They still sometimes hiss at me when i move too quickly. and would also climb to the highest point of their cage when i try to take them out.
and when they are out, and on my finger, and when i try petting and scratching, punky does this funny behavior, she shreaks and nips at my finger. the nips arent painful. and she would then bow her head. which i think means that she wants more scratching.
I read somewhere that these nips may only mean shes tasting me. is this true?
they now coud "step up" or transfer on command. and even sometimes "touch" my pointer stick.
all i want is that my tiels would have a long and comfy life. please help.
thank you!
