Hi! First off I'm going to call the vet first thing in the morning. This all came on so suddenly. Late this afternoon I noticed that my cockatiel, Abbey, seemed listless. Then it looked like she was throwing up. She moved her head like a parakeet does when it regurgitates (she's never done that before). Then she shakes her head and all the seed or pellets that she's eaten comes flying out in like a mucus coating. She's been sitting either in her cage or on us all puffy with her eyes closed. But, then she'll have moments where she acts like she always does. She'll fly to my daughter to sit on her. Also, she wants to eat but when she does, like 5 minutes later she spits it all up. I tried to give her some Cheerios, which she loves, and she gobbled it up and I thought it was going to stay down but then she just spit it up. She's trying to drink but I don't know if that's staying down either. What should I do overnight?? I went to this bird store near my house tonight and the girl there said it sounded like a yeast infection. It wasn't as bad then as it is now. She said I could watch her for a day or two and then take her to the vet. Do you think she'll make it overnight? We were out of town last week and she stayed at my sisters house with her two parakeets. Could she have picked something up from them even though they're not acting sick? Please tell me if you've heard of anything like this and what I can do to make her night more comfortable. Thank you so much!

All I can recommend is get her to the vet when they open in the morning. There are lots of causes of vomiting, impaction, bacterial or fungal infection, poisoning, ect.
My own guess would be impaction since birds that feel sick usually will not eat, but I'm not a vet! Grit, bits of rope from toys, and cage bedding material (woodchips or corncob) are the most common causes of impaction. It might be worth seeing if she's had access to any of these lately, as well as anything poisonous, just so you can tell the vet.

Thanks Karen!! I took her to the vet this morning and she has a yeast infection. They took a swab of her crop and looked at her droppings. I have to give her .3cc of Nystatin for 10 days. Hopefully, I can get it in her. The vet made it look so easy!! She gave me some syringes to do it. We go back in 10 days for a recheck. Thank you so much!!
