My cockatiel is acting very strange! Yes, I moved her cage to a diffrent part of the room, but thats nothing new~ Sleeping all the time is not normal for "Katchi", yet in the past week she certainly isn't as spunky as usual. She's sleeping with her head in her chest most of the day & night~ If I take her out to "play" which is usually on top of her cage with toys etc, She sleeps there!
She almost seems depressed! What can I do to help her as I can not afford to take her to the Vet?

Well, Are you going to believe this? After I wrote this, I went into her Box of goodies and found an old toy.It was her 'favorite', but I took it down because she guarded it like it was her baby and was getting hostile if anyone went near it! I replaced it with new ones I had gotten her for Christmas~ ( Figured she'd forget about it!)
I hung it next to her food dish and Voila!.......She's been singing and playing since yesterday!
I guess even Cockatiels will make us look like liars!
As long as she's okay, that's what counts!

Make sure you keep a close eye on her for a few days, if you notice even suttle changes you should at least call an avian vet and discuss it with them. Birds hide illness well and you do not want to miss the suttle changes that tell you when something is wrong.

How long ago did you remove the toy(you mentioned christmas) was she sad and sleepy right away, if no you really need to watch her closely, seeing her favorite toy again might be enough to stimualate her.

If you took the toy away a while ago, than it is most likely not the cause of this current problem. Make sure you watch her food and water intake and keep an eye on her stools make sure there is no change in the way they look. If you need a reference for what is normal and what is not there is a good online brochure on the zupreem website at www.zupreem.com, the article is called feeding your bird a healthier diet and here is a link to the brochure.
http://www.zupreem.com/pdf/bird/how_to_feed.pdf

It has good picture of normal and abnormal stools in it.

Good luck and let us know if anything changes.
