My cockatiel lately doesn't want to be anywhere near me. I try to pet him and he runs away, I try to pick him up and he attacks me. A few days ago he was a sweet and caring bird, but now he wants nothing to do with me. I recently got my nails done, but he's used to that so I don't know what else it could be. Please help....

Training a Cockatiel not to act like this is easy enough depending on a few things. First you have to figure out why. Most likely he's going through some spring time urges which typically cause this sort of behavior. Your best bet may be to just give him space for a little bit and see what happens. Getting territorial and unfriendly is not overly uncommon this time of year. How old is he?

Hi-

My female cockatiel used to let me play and pet her and when she was sick I was the one to give her medicene. She has always bonded with my husband, but lately she's been acutally running from me! When i try and extent my finger for her to step up she hisses but eventually will get on. I am worried..how do I regain her company?

He's a few years old, maybe about 3 now. It's never happened before which really worried me. He's slowly starting to warm up, when he wants he'll jump over to me and he'll let me pet him, but if I try to get him to step up he just bites me. Since he started running away I've spent a lot more time at home, sitting with him and talking to him. I also bought some of the flavored millet, he prefers that over the normal millet, to try and get him to come up to me more. Could he be jealous of any of my other animals??
