I have had Pretty Girl, my parakeet for 4years now and in the past 6months her beak has really been growing I have taken her in 3 times now to have it trimmed because she couldn't eat.Can anyone tell me what the problem might be.
I have not changed any food or anything. She has plenty of cement and sand perches, but she just uses them on the sides of her beak and not the end, which makes it skinny and long

I always supply my budgies with a cuttlebone or a mineral block with a cuttlebone in the middle. This helps to keep the beak trimmed and they love it. I use the mineral stone only as it has a cuttlebone in the middle. You can pick up a pack at walmart.

You should try a trimmer perch. There are several kinds, they have different textures and shapes. If you are having to trim that often I would go with on tht hs rougher texture. You can also use a nail file and every now and then run the file across the tip of the beak a few times.(Use the snadpaper kind not a metal one) provide toys to chew on will also help to naturally wear down the beak.

have you taken out and sand perches or anything she liked in particular because my budgie only sits on one swing and when i took it out he didnt get on the other swings.
