Hi, I read this survey about where birds sleep, and I
saw 5% of the people sleep with their birds. Does this
mean the bird sleeps in the room? on a perch? or as in
my case, I have a timid cockatiel that actually sleeps
in the crook of my neck, cuddled up in my hair. Poopy
calls are her shuffling her feet and a quick finger and
a ride out to the edge of the bed where a paper is
waiting. I've been embaressed to address this, but this
has been going on since she was a baby, (now 3 years old)
I had her broke of it for awhile, but she started in with
night frights and got back in the bed. Jeanie

I think it is safer not to sleep with her. It is so easy to move and squash her in your sleep.
Have you tried a night light to help with the night frights? You might also want to try a happy hut or other bed for her.

Hi Karen, I've got three nightlights around the bed. My conure
sleeps in his cage with his donkey. He puts himself to bed at
night and is very comfortable with his digs. The birds, Tyke Tyke
the Cockatiel, and PeaPod the Blue Crown, are basically
free roaming. They can fly, but when they get too good, they get
clipped just below 20 mph.
But Tyke Tyke, the timid Cockatiel, insists she gets the bed.
I've bought her cuddle toys, and a hut, but I really don't want her
to start laying eggs, so she doesn't get anything that might produce
hormones.
I had a accident about 5 years ago, so I can only lay on one side,
I'm not a messy, or rolling all over sleeper. Also sleep very lightly.
But I was really just wondering if anyone had heard of this before?
Do 5% of the companion birds actually sleep in the bed? Sounds wierd.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have 5 Macaws who are not getting anywhere near me while I sleep. They are all very possessive and jealous. I have to be careful just having two of them in my lap. If one feels it is not getting enough attention I have birdy wars in my lap. It is actually very funny to watch and they don't really try to hurt eachother they just demand their fair share of the attention. I don't take any chance with them when I am not right there. they all go to there seperate places and stay there until I come to get them up the next day.
