Should FeatherForum allow people to post anonymously? The advantage is, I think people would contribute a little bit more... The disadvantage is, it becomes harder to keep track of who said what, when everything shows up as being written by "Anonymous." I think that would make the site feel a little bit less friendly. But on the other hand, being able to comment without going through the signup process is kind of friendly too...

I dunno. Your thoughts?

The first time some sicko posts a porn video clip as 'Anonymous’ I think the answer will be clear. Until then I guess its ok. When I read something I like to consider the source and 'Anonymous’ is pretty far down my list but sometimes the 'Anonymous' post cuts to the core and says what every one else is thinking but is afraid to say.
Maybe a compromise, a preprinted 'Anonymous' post every one can use if logged in.
Something like 'bla-bla-bla' with a thumbs-down icon or 'Hoooraaay’ with a thumbs-up icon. Or maybe a 'Rate this Post’ button with stars like Amazon rates books. Anonymously of course.

Advantage - I had to post as 'Anonymous' once when I was away from home and using someone elses PC. There was no way I could remember that awful password! :)
I think the site is going to continue to be friendly as long as everyone (including 'Anonymous') continues to smile :)

Just a thought...... If 'Anonymous' is happy with what they see here, they will in the end want to sign up and make themselves known.

Yikkes.... that porn thought is a bit scary.
What about 'Anonymous' posts being screened by the Administrator before they appear (more work for Nate!)

Did you know you can change your password? It doesn't need to be that hard to remember. :-)

I don't know how hard it would be to implement screening or rating. I usually read everything new after put the birds to bed, so the actually screening wouldn't really be that much extra work. I'll look into it.

You and I seem be the only ones up this late. You should disregard every thing I post after eleven. I'm usually on my third tequila by then and tend to be a little obstreperous.

MikeB - What on earth does obstreperous mean?

Nate - I thought you would just give me another awful password if I wanted to change it. Maybe I could have 'obstreperous'? :)

Oops Nate’s still up.

"obstreperous": uncontrollably noisy or defiant

Nate,
People can go in and edit their profile name to Anonymous if they won’t then change it back. As long as people can read the posts with out login in it’s better than nothing. They usually browse until they find something they feel strongly about and will register just to make a comment.

MikeB - It's only 7.56 p.m. here. Do I wait till it's eleven here to disregard you or should I ignore you now? :)

Debbi,
I'm sorry I forgot you’re in New Zealand. I buy stuff on the internet from New Zealand. Anyway, any thing I post after 6 pm or before 4 pm your time should be considered a little suspicious.

No - make someone log in so you can authoritate! Let peoples read but not post unless logged in. It may not be a problem in the beginning but it will become one somewhere.
