The red parts are round holes for entering. they were quite happily nesting in the small upper internal part. But I checked the other day and someone had chewed away most of the piece of wood that the internal hole is in, and the egss had been dropped.carried to the bottom, where the hen was sitting on them. the eggs are not broken - surely if they fell they would have? How could she carry them down the ladder? They are bigger than her beak!
