Posted by NateW on Tue, 07/13/2004 - 23:37 :: Improving FeatherForum.com
I've recently realized a few things:
1) I'm really happy with the featherforum web site setup
2) "build it and they will come" is kind of optimistic
3) promotion is not my strong suit

So here's a cry for help. What can I do to bring more people onto this site? I like what it is right now, and I think it has tons more potential, but I'm not sure how to get the word out. If anyone out there has ideas, I'm all ears!

Thanks,

Takes time dude!

Turn the top blue bar to white. Turn FeatherForum to black. Does better in search engines. There is much more.

The main point I would make is the access to a membership list. I have no reference to members and know little about them. Access to the membership database would improve communication across this board.

Like who Owns a GSC out there? Where do members come from etc. Apart from a few that post regular I still don't know many. What is the membership now?

Thanks for the suggestions... I don't have much time today but I will act on those suggestions as soon as I can. They're good.

JMK like your idea. I tried to search in the FF Yahoo group and found most people didn't give any info. Was rather dissapointed. Seems more people fill out stuff here but what kind of bird (s) is a good idea. Although regardless of type they are all basically spoiled little brats - heh.

I second what Murray and Jim stated. It would be nice if we could look at the membership and see the type of birds people have and were they live. But like Jim said would it do any good most people don't give you any info. Also people just give the name of the bird when they post and if you're new, you have no idea the type of bird they're talking about. I see this alot on FF also.

I revised the title bar, and here's what the user list page looks like so far:
http://www.featherforum.com/user/list

It needs links at the bottom so you can look at more than just the most recent 50 and I'll get to that next.

I really like the idea of having a way for each person to make a list of their birds. That will take a bit longer, though.

On the site that I first met you Nate, it was possible to send a message via the admin. to other members. Could that be set up here? e.g. I would like to show Buck a photo of Maggot which of course would be rather out of place to post it on FeatherForum! (I'm sure JT would love to see a photo of Maggot here - not - If I read correctly between the lines - a man with fabulous ceilings, but not exactly a dog lover!? :>

I think I can set that up, Debbi. In the meantime feel free to post the photo. A little bit of off-topic stuff won't hurt anyone. :-)

The MSN group I belong to (BirdsRPeople2)has membership area for members, as well as its own section for members to put information about themselves. Some are more comfortable with more info than others, but that's better than nothing.

Don't re-invent the wheel. Just copy it and make improvements to it. Your abbrevivation link is one improvment over MSN boards. Keep it up Nate. For me a spell checker wouild be the ultimate.

Hey Nate

You need Feather Forum to be TYPE. A graphic does not show up in a search. Or somewhere on your home page you want type explaining the content. Sort of like this:
