This happens with parrots too, even greys and amazons, which are generally reputed to be very talkative. Some birds just don't feel like talking.

Does your bird make any noise at all? It might help to reward any sort of noise the bird makes, to see if that will encourage it to vocalize.

Hi Quincy,

I have no idea at what age Mynahs learn to talk, how old is yours? If you bought it as a baby it might only just be reaching the age when it should start.

If it is making noises morning and evening, it could be trying to copy noises it hears around the house (doors squeaking, computer noises, etc). You could try watching the bird when these type of noises happen, and see if it seems to pay particular attention to any of them.

Let us know how it goes. What is the bird's name & gender, by the way? I hate referring to a bird as "it" all the time :)

Both of my birds are species not known for their talking ability, so I'm not really the best person to be giving advice on this topic... but... I'd try talking to it a lot in the mornings and evenings, when it's fond of talking, and see if it mimics anything. Keep some rewards ready (favorite treats?) so if it does mimic something you say, you can reward it.
