My Sweet Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure
Posted by lisa on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 07:29 :: General Discussion
My diva conure parrot Sessie, yes, she is spoiled rotten but she is doing something that is worrying me. For about 2-3 months now she will lose her orange belly feathers and then they regrow and then she looses them again. Of course she doesn't act sick at all, but I know they usually don't, when something is wrong, She just turned a year old december 2007, and she went thru her big first molting, but this thing with her loosing her orange belly feathers has me worried, is this common or should I get her to a vet? Thanks for any help!!

I just received a red lored amazon. This is her 4th home. At first she was very sweet to me. She loved when I pet her and constantly called for me. Today was a different story. She doesn't want me in the same room as her.

I've had her and her brother for about 4 years and they do mate together and lay eggs. Sammy has always had a bald spot on her head, right under the feather crest...I never thought much of it (just wondering about it now). Recently, her chest feathers have begun to turn pink...and it looks like it's becoming darker and spreading :( I'm really worried...plz help

Umbrella Cockatoo with psychological issues
Posted by scruffy_1960 on Mon, 03/31/2008 - 00:28 :: General Discussion
After one year, I was finally able to get my sister to give me her Umbrella Cockatoo. Now, this bird was kept covered in his cage all the time, as she told us "he's to needy, and screams all the time." The reason for his screaming was simple - he was hungry! This bird weighs 538 grams, when he should weigh over 1,000 grams. I had to spoon feed him oatmeal the first week (per his vet)twice a day. Now he is re-learning to eat regular foods. His schedule is: breakfast 8:30 am, toast w/ butter, cherry preserves and a fried egg; lunch 11:30 -12:30 pm; Grilled Cheese sandwich - just started adding ham. Dinner is whatever we are having. Slow going but he does eat, and no longer screams (unless he is hungry or he sees us cooking). When he does scream for food, we say "you want a cracker?" we want him to associate that with food. So far it seems to be working. He's doing good and starting to put on weight - yes he does get fruits, vegetables and seeds. Although he gives most of it to the dogs. I realize that it will take a lot of time and effort to get him healthy again -I knew that beforehand.

Cockatiel to Hawaii

Did the 'mosquito-proof' container work out ok for Karen and the other lady (sorry I can't recall your name) who were shipping their birds to Hawaii? I have to find a mosquito-proof container for my cockatiel to Hawaii and wondered if the small carrier with mosquito-proof mesh over it (as suggested to them by the Hawaii DoAgriculture) worked out ok?
Can't wean my squab
Posted by Ahab on Tue, 03/04/2008 - 15:58 :: General Discussion
i raise homing pigeons as a hobby. Recently i decided to hand feed one of the squabs (i've raised a cockatiels and fantails like this before.) But this time i can't wean it off the formula. its already flying, and i don't know how to wean it. I've tried putting it with the other birds, but they just attack it. Your help would be appreciated.
