Pazuzu's strange noises
My 5 year old Orange-Wing Amazon, Pazuzu, has random bouts where he will make very interesting noises and put one leg up into the air as if he is going to grab on to something..then alternate and put his other leg up into the air. I'm not sure if this is some sort of mating dance thing...I'm mostly just curious, I just think it's funny how he looks like an idiot when doing it XD. I took a video of him doing it and hopefully someone can explain to me exactly what it is =D. Thanks!
A red lored and a blue fronted, can they be friends?
I have just bought a mate for my very tame and cuddly redlored Amazon. We found a two-year old very tame and talkative blue fronted. We've had our redlored for about 4 months, and he's very bonded to especially me. He's about 6 months old now. We thought he would be thrilled to have a mate, since I have to work full time, and he has to be alone a lot, but they don't get along at all. When they are in separate cages they seem to talk to each other a little, and they are definitly curious of eachother. But when I tried to have them out together, the blue fronted (called Andrea) chases my poor red lored, and when I put them together in the big cage, my redlored (called Papageno) keeps running after Andrea (it doesn't seem like he has any ill intends. He does not use any threat postures, and only bite to defend himself). Andrea, really use threat postures every time he comes around (tail fanned, wings slightly spread, and beak half open).
HOW INTUITIVE IS AN AMAZON

My buddy Cheerios, a 5 year-old Amazon, is so precious to me. I hand raised him after my mom bought him as a gift from a breeder. As he grew he became a very feisty player he’d run up to me lay on his back and make a growling sound as I rubbed his belly, he’d hold my pinky finger in his beak and just seem to enjoy rough playing…kind of like a puppy! He would chase small balls that I would roll on the table top or bed for him and when he got it he would run away with it, it seemed as though he wanted me to chase him once he had it because if I didn’t he would just drop the ball like it was no fun.
Major breakthrough with Romeo! Should I change his name?

(You can read Romeo's background on my other thread "inside cage training".)
Hooray! I have been allowing Romeo more time out of the cage. He mostly would just sit or walk around on top his cage. I put his T perch adjacent to the cage hopeing he would climb down on the T perch.

About Amazons
Hi all
At the moment I am an owner of a cockatiel, but I am also interested in Amazons (also many other species). I don't know much about them, and would like to find out from you guys, what they are like as pets. Things like, noise level, how friendly they are, expenses, special requirements. Do they make good one person companions or are they people parrots? I would so love to hear of some of your experiences with these birds. So I know what I could get myself into before it happens.

Inside the cage training?

I have recently acquired a beautiful DYHD Amazon that came from deplorable conditions. He lived in a large rabbit cage with a female he hated because he pecked her bald. There was one huge tree branch about 12" in diameter across the cage. No toys, very little light. There were about 80 other birds in cages in a tin roofed shed. He was fed only a diet of seeds. No fresh veggies, fruits etc. Since he couldn't perch, he climbed all over the cage, top bottom, sides continously. He had very little human contact except for someone dumping seeds in a bowl, he and his cell mate was left alone all day with 80 other birds that were squawking and screaming all the time.
How can you tell the age of your FID?

Hello, I am new to the Forums.. So PLEASE be gentle :)
I have two Amazons, one BFA, Sojo and a LCA, Pepe. I have has Sojo since 1996 I was told she was only 13 month then. I rescued Pepe from a family that had no further use for him/her...errrr(not something you toss to curb when you tire of it)He was caged in room alone for 4 years and only had human interaction during feeding times.
