Racing Pigeon People kill there birds

Posted by BrokenWing on Mon, 09/10/2007 - 16:24 :: Pigeons
This is a common practice within the Racing sport, irresponsable breeding produces to many birds,those that do not live up to the standards are killed, or entered into a race with no training, this is called basket culling, these birds then join up (if they survive) with the feral flocks and are mass poisoned.

So the next door neighbors released some white pigeons at their backyard lakeside wedding ceremony. While the other pigeons all took off, homeward bound I am sure, one of them made several laps around the lake before coming a landing on the roof of our house.

Hey Lisa Phoenix did you find any pigeons? If you did what kind and what color where they if not I hope you deciede to do it. Pigeons can be allot of fun, but at the same time they can be a handful.

Training

Posted by jackal64 on Sun, 07/03/2005 - 09:09 :: Pigeons
This is an up date on training for those who would like to know. We have started to let the adults out to fly with the babies that way they can learn to fly as a group and not all over the place. We are hoping this will keep them safe from predators but so far we have lost two but not to other birds but cars.

Piegon training

Does it take any extra training to teach pigeons to come home to roost at night, or is that just something they do naturally? Are there extra steps you take when releasing them for the first few time

This is cool
